Monthly social assistance for people aged 18–59 whose disability is assessed as lasting six months or more. Not a private disability policy.

Who it is for
Adults 18–59 who cannot support themselves because of a physical or mental disability, after a medical assessment.
Private income protection and disability cover test occupation and policy wording. This grant tests disability and means. They are not substitutes.
Conditions
- Age
- 18 to 59 years (at 60, apply for the Older Persons Grant).
- Disability
- Medical officer must confirm a disability lasting at least six consecutive months.
- Means test
- Same income and asset bands as the Older Persons Grant.
- State institution
- Not payable if you are fully maintained in a state institution.

Headline amounts are the National Treasury 2026 Budget figures from 1 April 2026. Cross-checks are stored on each grant. Sliding-scale means tests can pay less than the maximum. Change this row in Core SA and the Compass follows.
- Take the Budget Review amount as the maximum.
- Keep a cross-check (GroundUp, SASSA, news). If a page still lists the pre-April figure, mark it as disagreeing, do not overwrite the Budget amount.
- Means-test thresholds are aggregator figures unless SASSA publishes a table — labelled as such on the grant.
