Which test applies now?
Policies rarely use one disability standard for the whole claim. The Initial Period may test own occupation while the Extended Period switches to any occupation, partial capacity, or permanent thresholds. Your doctor should answer against the test that applies on the dates you were absent — not a generic 'can you work somewhere' question.
Purpose
Initial Period is usually own-occupation; Extended Period may shift.
Evidence the workspace should capture
Policy schedule disability clauses, Initial/Extended Period dates, insurer assessment letters citing the test applied.
